Research Projects

  • Lab rotation 1 - AG Reinhold - Hurek (Department of Molecular Plant-Microbe Interaction)- The project titled 'Establishing and testing an oxygen-independent reporter system in Azoarcus olearius BH72'. Using various molecular cloning techniques I tagged the bacterium with some novel reporter proteins that did not depend on oxygen and compared them to other common oxygen-dependent reporter proteins like eGFP using microscopy and microtiter assay. Results indicated that the novel reporter proteins were unsuitable for our model bacterium
  • Lab Rotation 2 - AG Dotzauer - Culturing cell lines and testing the quality of media to ensure the growth of healthy cell lines.
  • Masters Thesis - AG Dotzauer (Department of Virology)- My project titled - 'Studying the effect of co-expression of 2B protein and 3ABC intermediate of Hepatitis A virus in cell lines' aimed to compare the single expression of the proteins to their co-expression and determine their interactive functions. Using cell line transfection and indirect immunofluorescence assay I studied the viral proteins interactive function concerning certain cell organelles under confocal microscopy. The results indicated differences in the functions of the viral proteins when they are individually expressed to when they are co-expressed. A hypothesis regarding the polyprotein processing of HAV could be formulated from the results obtained.
