• Provide high level of quality care for each patient in a 80-bed Level III Neonatal ICU.
• Currently on NICU Transport Team
• Member of the NICU unit practice council
• Administer medications and fluids and check vital signs on critically ill newborns.
• Obtain bloodwork via arterial, venous and capillary
• Insertion of peripheral IVs
• Care of infants needing therapeutic body cooling
• Participate in multi-disciplinary rounding on each patient every shift
• Communicate with family members and loved ones to provide information about patient care, treatments and medical options.
• Initiate and maintain blood transfusions
• Care for infants with hyperbilirubinemia, including initiation and maintenance of phototherapy
• Provide postpartum care to new mothers (Couplet care in current NICU)
• Assist mothers with breastfeeding, pumping, supplementation as needed

Travel Assignments: Charlton Memorial Hospital, Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, Beebe Medical Center

• Monitor fetal heart rate, gauge patient contractions and provide breathing and relaxation techniques
• Determine labor progression by checking the patient's cervix
• Maintain clear and continuous communication with providers
• Administer prescribed medications
• Assist with fetal scalp electrode and intrauterine pressure catheter placements
• Care for patients being induced with Cervidil, Pitocin, and Foley bulbs.
• Assist anesthesia for epidural placement and maintain continuous epidural
• Immediate care of newborn including assigning Apgar scores, weighing and other assessments
• Assisting mothers and newborns with breastfeeding, pumping and supplementation, if necessary
• Proficient with Neonatal Abstinence scoring, including administration of opiate medications to help with the opiate withdrawal process
• Caring for infants with hypoglycemia, including supplementation and IV insertion/maintenance for dextrose administration
• Caring for infants with hyperbilirubinemia, including initiation and maintenance of phototherapy, and transcutaneous & serum bilirubin draws
• Help stabilize infant for transfer to higher level of care, including assisting with UV line access, peripheral IV access, CPAP, lab draws, maintain ventilation via mask or ET tube, antibiotic administration and assisting Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and/or Pediatrician
• Initiated and maintained blood transfusion
