A Mission System Operator (MSO) is a role that involves operating and maintaining complex electronic and mission systems, for military aircraft training, aerospace, or satellite operations.

This can include working with electronic warfare systems, simulators, Man-Portable Air-Defense Systems, ground control software, and ensuring seamless communication during missions.

The specific duties depends on the customer and the specific mission, but generally require strong technical skills and a security clearance.

• Served as an Sensor Control Officer for the 11th Missile Defense Battery Sensor Management Cell (SMC) in support of USEUCOM Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) Operations; responsible for operating the AN/TPY-2 Forward-Based Mode (FBM) Radar into the EUCOM Joint Integrated Air Missile Defense (JIAMD) Operational Environment; incorporates current BMD threats to successfully employ the Command, Control, Battle Management and Communications (C2BMC) system to defeat BMD threats within the USEUCOM Area of Operations (AO); maintains current system and communication status of JIAMD assets within the USEUCOM Area of Responsibility; responsible for the training and evaluation of 2 Soldiers.

• Joint Tactical Ground Station Operator for Army Space and Missile Defense Command. Conducts data analysis of direct down-linked data from space-based Sensors and various other intelligence sources in order to disseminate warning, alerting, and cueing information to area Combatant Commanders, for airborne threats from tactical ballistic missiles and other events of interest originating from, passing through, and threatening to impact in their Area of Responsibility. Operates desktop computers, laptop computers, Printer/copier machines, and telephones daily. Proficient in MS Office to include: Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, Publisher. Creates spreadsheets, reports, summaries, and correspondence for various agencies. Interprets and implements SOPs, manuals, and other guidance from higher in order to ensure efficient and proper operations. Supervises 3 employees on a daily basis; providing technical guidance, training, and leadership to include monthly performance evaluations, and assistance in financial, personal, and professional issues.

• Recruits, determines applicant enlistment eligibility, counsels applicants on enlistment programs and options, prepares enlistment applications and processes qualified applicants to enlist in the Army and Army Reserve; accounts for and prepares Future Soldiers for initial entry training; implements and conducts Army awareness programs throughout an area covering square miles with a population of 115,826; maintains a network of influencers to include parents, educators and community officials in four high schools and one college; responsible for $45,000 worth of Government equipment.

• Serves as an Early Warning System Operator (EWSO) Team Leader in a Headquarters Battery assigned to a PATRIOT Battalion in support of a worldwide contingency mission; responsible for training Battery Command Post (BCP) crews; performs maintenance and data link management on Command, Control, Communications, Computers, And Intelligence (C4I) systems ensuring real-time data is available to the Battalion Commander to support Theater and Missile Defense operations; responsible for the health, welfare, training, and accountability of 6 Soldiers and their Families. Accountable for equipment valued at over $350,000.

• The air defense artillery job deals with manual early warning network (MEWN) functions. Handles operations and intelligence functions for the air defense artillery Unit. Soldiers detect, track and identify aircraft, both friendly and enemy, and broadcast necessary early warning information. Operating and performing maintenance on team vehicles and other equipment, perform and support operations and intelligence duties in air defense units. These intelligence duties may vary widely depending on the mission at hand. Perform map operations, which are often critical to mission success. Supervise lower-grade soldiers and provide these subordinates with technical guidance. Another big part of their jobs involves destroying classified material, as well as performing other security functions as necessary.

• Freight/Receiving position ensures the store is stocked and ready for business every day. Loading and unloading of trucks, moving material from the receiving area throughout the store, may operate forklifts, and may perform critical functions for maintaining proper on-hands and pricing for our customers. Direct customer interaction is frequently required, and excellent customer service skills are required.

• Tracking of and organizing ammunition where and when it's needed by various Organizations and missions. In addition, conduct supply stock control of ammunition and use Marine Corps-approved accounting methods to make sure no weapons or explosives are missing. Inspect weapons and weapons systems to determine if they have become unstable or are too old, and need to be repaired or destroyed.
