Purpose of the job.

Checking after the exact content of cargo shipments, and deciding if KLM Cargo is allowed and willing to transport this content. This assessment is done based on national and international law and regulations. EU export sanctions due to Geo political issues are part of them. Military/Strategic goods, dual-use good and dangerous goods can only be transported under the correct circumstances with the correct papers and documents.

Day to Day activities:

  • Asses request done by Customer service. These requests are done in a specific tool that saves the provided documents and communication for a request on a server so an auditable trail is available
  • Answer questions from the KLM Cargo network with regards to military / strategic-, dual-use-, and dangerous goods.
  • participate in projects as Subject Matter Expert.
  • Get acquainted with rules, regulations, embargoes etc.

This work is done with a computer dealing with KLM systems, internet and office applications. As long as internet is available it is not bound to a fixed location. Precision and the quick understanding of provided info is a must.

Purpose of the department :

Taking care of and monitoring the correct handling and transport of Dangerous Goods in cargo, airmail and luggage in accordance with law and regulations and applicable work instructions. This in order to guarantee safety of customers, staff, material and environment and a smooth progress of the process.

Day to Day activities :

  • Dangerous goods acceptance checks on AMS-export cargo.
  • Dangerous goods checks on transit cargo
  • Answering questions from all KLM Divisions, passengers, and cargo-agents with regards to dangerous goods.
  • Authorizing shipments in case an “Operator approval” is required
  • Authorizing Class-1 explosive shipments
  • Taking care of safety and a smooth progress of the process in case of incidents with dangerous goods.

The work is done in an office behind a PC dealing with various KLM systems, internet and office applications, but also “hands-on” in the warehouses, at the ramp and in the “bagagekelder” and gets us in contact with internal and external customers.

As Subject Matter Expert giving input for DG training which are being developed and giving input and advice in projects.

As ADR Road Safety Advisor writing the Annual ADR report for KLM-Cargo and KLM-E&M
