Schmalify – A Second-Hand Marketplace for Students (https://schmalify.com)

Schmalify is a second-hand marketplace designed for students in Schmalkalden, providing a dedicated platform to buy and sell items within the local student community. As the sole developer, I managed all aspects of the project, from design and architecture to implementation, ensuring a high-quality, full-stack solution.

Technologies Used: Developed using Nuxt.js with Nuxt Server Engine (Nitro) for the backend, and integrated NuxtHub for handling media uploads and storage. Deployed on Cloudflare to ensure high performance, low latency, and secure access.

Features: Includes advanced filtering, sorting, and category-based search functionality. Offers a responsive design for both mobile and desktop, ensuring accessibility across devices. The platform also supports real-time updates and communication between users.

Performance Optimizations: Leveraged server-side rendering (SSR) for SEO enhancements and faster load times. Implemented lazy loading, asset optimization, and reusable components to boost responsiveness and overall performance. Achieved an exceptional performance score of 99 on Google PageSpeed Insights, ensuring a fast and seamless user experience.

Full-Stack Development: Took complete ownership of the platform’s development, including backend logic using Nuxt’s server engine, front-end interfaces with Nuxt.js and Vue.js, and CI/CD pipelines for deployment. Utilized Cloudflare’s tools to enhance scalability and reliability.

Adoption and Impact: Schmalify is actively used by thousands of students at Hochschule Schmalkalden and has been embraced by the university itself, further solidifying its role as an essential platform for sustainable second-hand trading within the student community.
