In this project a compact continuous fiber nozzle with compaction rollers was developed, integrated on 6-DOF KUKA robot, capable of directing continuous fibers in the load path while compacting the specimen, thus improving interlaminar bonding and increasing the fiber volume content in the part.
A material model of the continuous fiber filaments was developed for subsequent simulation of more complex structures.
Based on the preliminary experimental data, Abaqus software is used to establish the corresponding 2D and 3D models to verify the fracture toughness of carbon fiber composites measured in the experiment. Finally the model is used instead of the experiment in order to save the experimental cost.
